To Rescue the World From a Chocolate Shortage—

Thursday, October 2nd 2008 - 5:13 pm by Kari

Okay, so I’m getting tired of reading about the $10.00 desk that I bought off craigslist. Not that I’m not happy about having it; it’s just old news now. So I thought I’d put some new news up here. Well, actually, a friend told me today that if I didn’t put up some new news within the next 24 hours, she was going to create a global chocolate famine, and I would nary a Hershey’s bar find—not for love or gold. So I’m gathering all the new news I can find, lest we should suffer through a trip to the grocery store and not be rewarded with a chocolaty-caramelly Twix bar at the end.

So, first item of the day, we signed paperwork this morning to buy a brand-spanking old (but remodeled) 3-bedroom mobile home. It’s about the same size as our apartment, except with an extra bedroom, more kitchen counter space, and a fenced-in yard all our own (and only our own). It was a steal at $5,000. Someday, when we find the perfect spot of land, we’ll move that puppy onto it, and then, in another someday (probably several somedays), when we have enough money, we’ll build something more—permanent. At least, that’s the starry-eyed plan right now. We never thought we’d live in a trailer, but come February, I won’t be able to manage our complex anymore, and we had to find someplace cheaper to live. And lot rent is a lot cheaper than apartment rent. And you can’t hear your neighbor’s music at 2 o’clock in the morning. So all around, everyone’s happy.

Second item of the day: did you know that the mosquitoes here in Fargo could double as cargo carriers for the airlines? They have to get clearance from the airport every time they land, and the big problem with them isn’t the threat of West Nile virus, or even the allergic reactions that my son gets whenever he gets bit—it’s that they interfere with air traffic. Planes have to wait for hours to take off, while droves of mosquitoes come in for their final approach. They laugh at bug repellant. (Seriously—you can hear them chortling from a block away).

Third item of the day: the reason that we bought a three-bedroom trailer is that we’ll be needing that third bedroom come February, because two baby beds just won’t fit in our bedroom.

Baby 2 ultrasound

(Cherry—is that good enough for you?)

I’m not so sure about not hearing neighbors’ music in a trailer park.

That is an old ultrasound, by the way—just so nobody thinks our baby still resembles a walnut.

If you tried to leave a comment earlier, try again, and don’t forget to answer the question. It’s to protect us from the evil spammerz.

I tried to leave a comment a couple posts ago, but the computer must not of liked my answer to the color of the sky. I responded, “it depends on the weather." I guess I need to type in blue. What a standard answer. I was trying to be creative!!! Oh well!

Sorry about that. I tried to pick an easy question.

I had to put that on there because we had a whole bunch of spam comments that some malicious program put there. They were selling things I would rather not have advertised on our site (plus, they didn’t pay us).

Congratulations! The baby looks like Pacman. Ultrasounds always confused me- I can never make out what part of the baby is what, not even with the little labels they put in.

Baby was only, like, 6 weeks in this ultrasound, so there weren’t a whole lot of parts to discern at that point. We have a great ultrasound of Christian’s skull somewhere—it’s the only one I could actually make out.

That’s so exciting! Brand new vistas and kids happening! So are you going to get a couple of hickory rocking chairs and face them away from the trailor park out into the fertile country surrounding it? You can take your boombox outside and blast Mahler and Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, which might take care of the neighbor’s music!

by the way, it’s morning, even though the time says that it’s 4:00pm, and we have a yellow sky. So I’m really tempted to write “yellow" down in the comment box. But I suppose even if you asked for the color of grass, your Kentucky friends might type “blue" and your other friends, slave to habit, might also! Not that your other friends are slaves to their blue-sky-on-doodlegeek habit . . . but anyway. Speaking of colors, is your reference to “Cherry" above a hint at a possible name for your child? If your looking for approval from friends and family, sure “Cherry" sounds great! If you are looking for other possibilities, how about Charlotte, Charity, Charis, Chaunekwa (also spelled “Shaniqua" and “Schneikua" among other clever variations, but those don’t fit in with the “Ch-" requirements), and then there’s the unique names Chickadee, Chalmeretta, and Cheddar. Now it suddenly occurs to me that “Cherry" is probably the friend who volunteered to create a chocolate shortage. Owell!!

Greetings to the Birchler clan. May your tent keep expanding to accomodate new arrivals. Congratulations on the (old) news! That’s so exciting. And you know, if you had a little girl born on Valentines Day, Charity would be perfect…

I’m glad you have this page up. It’s so much fun to read your posts Kari! And Aaron, too. Both your personalities shine through your verbage. Can’t wait to meet your little ones someday and look for the resemblances…

Oh, and my comment on the trick question: I tried posting a month ago, but capitalized Blue. Having lost my post and my train of thought, I turned off the computer and went to bed. This time, I will the text first just in case there is some level of profundity in azureness which I have not yet become aware of… Blue, BLUE, bLUE, b-l-u-e… blue… is that really how we spell it? It looks funny to me now…

Sarah! It’s so good to hear from you (I gave you up for lost a LONG time ago). I’m glad you’re still around. :)

And Charity—I just now noticed your comment; I’m glad you finally got things to like you enough so you could actually post one!

Well, it’s been a while since there was a new comment, so I thought I’d add one just for fun. Don’t have anything much to say. Any new developments with the up-and-coming child? Any word on the gender? How about the present one? Is he excited to be a big brother? How’s the new home? Sorry, a lot of questions. With all the information I’m asking for, you might as well just make it a new post and don’t even bother with a reply.

Merry Christmas to the Birchlers!
